Hilary Varlow


Hilary originally qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1992 having already had 6 years experience in a mixed practice. She became Head Nurse of a busy small animal practice in Birmingham and remained there for 6 years before moving to Gloucestershire and becoming Head Nurse at our Wotton under Edge Hospital.


Here Hilary gained her Advanced Veterinary Nursing Surgical Diploma in 2001. Along with all aspects of nursing Hilary also has a keen interest in behavioural problems and in 2003 was awarded the Diploma in Companion Animals Behaviour Therapy by COAPE.

As part of her Head Nurse duties Hilary has helped numerous students train to become qualified Veterinary Nurses and since 2009 has been a Veterinary Nursing Examiner for the Royal College. Hilary has a keen interest in all aspects of nursing and loves the variety of the day to day challenges presented in a busy hospital. She was instrumental in setting up our radiotherapy unit and is point of contact for clients when booking in hyperthyroid cats for radioactive iodine treatment. 

In her spare time Hilary enjoys riding her two horses as well as training her dogs who enjoy freestyle heel work and agility.
