Neurology - Mike Targett MA VetMB PhD MRCVS
Our Neurology service is based at our Bradley Stoke Hospital and is run by Mike Targett MA VetMB PhD MRCVS. We are very proud that Dr. Mike Targett, RCVS & European Specialist Neurologist continues to offer a visiting neurology referral service for Rowe Referrals.
Whilst based at the new Nottingham University Veterinary School Mike’s referral visits are booked to coincide with the availability of our MRI facility. This allows Mike to combine a full neurological examination and follow up MRI scan, if appropriate, and enables him to direct the MRI investigation and provide a preliminary report to be offered as a same day service.
Mike’s referral case load consists largely of investigation of brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerve disorders including seizures, intervertebral disc disease, neoplasia, inflammatory, degenerative and structural abnormalities.
Mike routinely makes use of Cerebrospinal Fluid sampling and electrophysiological testing to compliment his neurological investigations.
Mike graduated from the University of Cambridge where he remained to obtain a PhD in neurobiology before undertaking a period as University assistant surgeon. In 1998 he moved to a lectureship at the Royal Veterinary College, London leading the small animal neurology service within the Queen Mother hospital. Following a period in private practice offering a second opinion small animal neurology referral service in the north west of England he joined the school of veterinary medicine and science in 2007. Mike is currently clinical associate professor in veterinary neurology.
